What is Sculptra and how does it differ from traditional fillers?
Sculptra Aesthetic is a FDA-approved injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material that has been used safely in medical applications for decades.
Rather than filling lines or adding volume directly like hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production, essentially rebuilding the structural framework that gives skin its firmness, elasticity, and youthful fullness.
When Sculptra microparticles are injected into the deep dermis, they trigger a controlled inflammatory response that activates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen. Over the following weeks and months, new collagen fibers form around the PLLA particles, which are gradually and safely absorbed by the body. What remains is your own natural collagen, providing volume and structural support that integrates with your tissue. This is fundamentally different from traditional fillers, which provide immediate but temporary volume that eventually dissolves.
