During each session, your provider here will mark a grid of injection points beneath your chin and deliver multiple small injections across the treatment zone. A typical session involves 20 to 50 injections and takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Most patients require two to four treatment sessions to reach their optimal result, though some may need up to six sessions depending on the amount of submental fat present. You will begin to notice visible improvement after the second or third session as your body processes the disrupted fat cells. During your initial consultation at our Fishkill office, we will evaluate the volume of fat beneath your chin, assess your skin elasticity, and estimate the number of sessions needed to achieve the profile you envision.

Swelling beneath the chin is the most common side effect and is actually a sign that the product is working, the inflammatory response is part of the fat-elimination process. Swelling is typically most pronounced for the first 48 to 72 hours and can last up to two weeks, though it progressively diminishes.

You may also experience temporary numbness, firmness, bruising, or tenderness in the treated area. These effects resolve on their own as healing progresses. Most of our patients find that the swelling is easily concealed with a scarf or turtleneck and that they can return to work within a day or two. We recommend scheduling your sessions with social events in mind, allowing at least one week before any important occasions.

If you have been frustrated by a double chin that does not respond to diet or exercise, Kybella may be a good non-surgical solution. It works best for patients with good skin elasticity, as the skin needs to contract and tighten around the newly reduced fat layer.

Kybella is not recommended for individuals who have had previous surgery in the chin or neck area, those with difficulty swallowing, or those with infections in the treatment zone. Patients with excessive skin laxity beneath the chin may benefit more from a surgical approach or a combination of treatments. A thorough evaluation here will determine whether Kybella alone will deliver your desired outcome, or whether combining it with skin-tightening treatments would serve you better.
